iPad 4 Wi-Fi Microphone Replacement

Step 1 - Front Panel Assembly (2)

  • If there's a piece of electrical tape covering the Wi-Fi antenna, speaker cable and the home button ribbon cable, remove it.

Step 2

  • Lift up the flap retaining the home button ribbon cable ZIF connector.

Step 3

  • Pull the home button ribbon cable out of its socket on the logic board. Do this with a pair of tweezers.

Step 4

  • De-route the home button ribbon cable from its niche in the rear case.

Step 5

  • A piece of tape is securing the digitizer ribbon cable to the logic board. Peel it back with a pair of tweezers.

Step 6

  • Lift up the retaining flap on both digitizer ribbon cable ZIF connectors.

Step 7

  • Loosen the adhesive under the digitizer ribbon cable with the flat end of a spudger.

  • Take out the digitizer ribbon cable out of its sockets on the logic board.

Step 8

  • Peel back the digitizer ribbon cable. Separate the cable from the adhesive securing it to the rear aluminum case with the flat end of a spudger.

Step 9

  • Take the digitizer ribbon cable out of its niche in the aluminum frame. Do this with your fingers.

  • Separate the front panel from the iPad.

Step 10 - Front Facing Camera

  • Peel back the adhesive tape covering the front-facing camera connector with a pair of tweezers.

Step 11

  • Lift the front-facing camera slightly out of its socket on the headphone jack assembly with the flat end of a spudger.

Step 12

  • Using the flat end of a spudger take the front-facing camera out of its niche in the rear case.

Step 13

  • Lift the front-facing camera completely and remove it from the iPad.

Step 14 - Microphone

  • Peel back the adhesive covering the microphone ribbon cable with a pair of tweezers.

Step 15

  • Lift up the retaining flap on the microphone cable ZIF connector using the tip of a spudger.

Step 16

  • Push the tip of a spudger under the microphone ribbon cable. Push it carefully from its socket on the ZIF connector.

Step 17

  • Separate the microphone ribbon cable from the adhesive securing it to the rear case with the flat edge of a spudger.

  • Do not completely remove the microphone cable assembly. Strong adhesive is securing it to the top edge of the rear case.

Step 18

  • In the following step, you will need to lift up the microphone assembly by using the small opening (in the photo, there's a red circle is around it) as leverage. It is located near the top right corner of the microphone assembly.

Step 19

  • Push the tip of a spudger into the previously mentioned small opening.

  • Lift the spudger upwards, but keep it close to the rear case, and dislodge the microphone assembly from the adhesive gluing it to the rear case.

  • Lift the microphone assembly completely and remove it from the iPad.
